Rime

"Suddenly, without anything announcing the surprising change, completely frozen water vapour rose from the ground;  it reached a height of about ninety feet and remained motionless;  they could not see more than a single pace ahead; the water vapour stuck to their clothes, which it filled with long, sharp prisms.

The travellers, surprised by this phenomenon of rime, had one immediate thought:  to find each other."
